WELCOME TO THE NUTTY BEAN CAFE

We are a small neighbourhood café, operating since 2003 (formerly known as the Nuttshell Next Door) serving high-quality food, utilizing local ingredients whenever possible in beautiful downtown Lakefield. Home of the best verandah in town.

Every morning we serve fresh baking and breakfast and a selection of sandwiches with house-made soup and market salads throughout the day. We feature organic fair-trade, shade grown coffee by the cup or beans by the bag.

As often as possible we have chosen to support local farmers and growers as suppliers for our menus. Local produce is bought from local farmers, cheesemakers, butchers and produce when available.

Serving our exclusive blend of fair-trade coffee, specialty coffees, teas, baked goods, breakfast and lunch in house and take-out.

Using local foods available in our menu choices. Offering farm to table experience for our customers.

Our mornings are busy baking our scones, muffins, cookies and buttertarts, along with chopping, simmering, blending, and sauteeing to prepare our house-made soups, salad ingredients and dressings, and sandwich spreads.

Our cafe is more than just fresh – it’s prepared right in the kitchen, it’s made in-house.

Serving Fair-trade, Shade-grown organic coffee. We feature organic fair-trade coffee by the cup or beans by the bag. The coffee we are proud to serve is My Indie Coffee.

The people who have tried our coffee come back for the coffee alone. We also serve espresso, americano, latte, cappuccino or try our London Fog.

We are open daily for your morning buzz.

What better place for you to enjoy your morning coffee with a little breakfast or enjoy lunch and an afternoon coffee or specialty drink (on our verandah or patio in the warmer weather)!

We hope you will stop in for a little relaxation while in town or on your way up to the cottage.

Our Coffee Blends

The coffees are roasted to various degrees of darkness. From a medium to a dark roast.

Lakefield Blend – Medium-light roast coffee blend. A very nice breakfast blend.

Stoney Lake – Same as our house-brewed medium roast. The Jewel of the Kawarthas, an oasis from plain, everyday coffee.

House French Roast – French roasted to a strong dark finish. Same as our house brewed dark roast.

Lazy Sunday – Swiss water decaf. Same as our house brewed decaf.

Kawartha Thunder (Dark roast espresso) – Same beans we use for our espressos, lattes, Americanos and cappuccinos at the cafe. Full bodied coffee is roasted medium-dark in the Vienesse style. Makes for a smooth, sweet espresso with a full crema.
